Marc Scott Zicree Still Setting the Table in Toluca Lake

Today is Thursday, which means that tonight at Patys in Toluca Lake, there will be another weekly gathering of “the table,” a two-decades-old show business support group launched and maintained by Marc Scott Zicree.

There is also now a documentary about this LA phenomenon, The Table, which screened Monday in Los Feliz as part of the LA United Film Festival and is slated to show again on May 16 at the New York end of that multi-pronged event. As the trailer cleverly frames, Zicree's coffee clatch aims to help people confronting the astronomical odds against making it in Hollywood.

The Table was also recently made available on VOD for the very reasonable sum of four dollars. The movie was directed Manila-born filmmaker Ana Barredo, who emigrated to the U.S. in 1986 and met her latest subject just a few years ago:

Barredo worked as a Special Features Producer for dozens of DVD releases including The Twilight Zone Definitive Collection, where she met Twilight Zone Companion author Zicree. In 2009, Zicree invited her to a meeting of a group he started called the Table. Intrigued by this unique group, she decided to follow its members for a year. In 2011, she completed The Table.

Although Zicree's TV and film writing credits are numerous, he actually started out as a painter and photographer, after earning his degree in that field from UCLA.
